Western Bulldogs stand-in skipper Easton Wood has been cleared of serious ankle damage and could return in the AFL finals.

Wood was sent for scans after landing awkwardly on his left leg during the Bulldogs' win over Essendon at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

"Woody had scans this morning and the good news is there is no bone damage but he does have a medial ligament injury," Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe told the club website, adding the club was optimistic Wood could play a part in the finals series.
